Johnson & Wales Takes Down CC

The Colorado College women’s basketball team lost to Johnson and Wales University, 75-52 last Tuesday evening at Reid Arena. Senior guard McCorra Ford recorded a double-double, and led the Wildcats with 29 points and 24 rebounds. Despite the loss, the Tigers played a close game for the first two quarters. CC battled hard against Johnson and Wales in the first quarter especially. The opening frame saw three lead changes, and the score was even five times throughout the quarter. The Tigers led 22-27 following a pair of free throws that sophomore guard Kaylyn Radtke made with just under two minutes to play in the first half. Radtke finished with a career-high 11 points and eight rebounds. Fellow sophomore guard Casey Torbet added 11 points as well, good for a tie with Radtke for second-most on the team.

The Tigers, however, were not able to carry the lead Radtke secured into the third quarter. Sophomore guard Dominique Riley drained a three as time expired to give the Wildcats a lead they would hold for the rest of the game.

Johnson and Wales converted on 12 of 23 three-point attempts, compared to CC’s one completion out of nine attempts from beyond the arc. The Tigers fell to 1-5 on the season, while Johnson and Wales notched their first victory of the season. They now sit at 1-7.

CC heads to Walla Walla, Wash., this weekend to compete in the 2016 Kim Evanger Raney Classic. The Tigers will tip off against Whitworth University today at 4 p.m., and Whitman College tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
