CC Summer Briefs: June 1-6

Colorado College alumni featured in “Unclimbable”

SB Nation chronicled 2014 alumni Hannah Trim, Mareya Becker and Lauren Hebert’s rock climbing trip to a famous remote bowl Nahanni National Park in Canada’s Northwest Territories called Cirque of the Unclimbables. The alumni received a Ritt Kellogg Grant to climb in the Cirque.

A month before their trip, Becker received word that 2013 CC graduate Cole Kennedy had passed away after an ice avalanche struck him and his climbing partner in the Andes’ Cordillera Blanca.

Kennedy had received a Ritt Kellogg Grant to climb the Cirque of the Unclimbables, but the school revoked it after he and some friends set off an impromptu fireworks display at Llamapalooza. Trim, Becker and Herbert carried Kennedy’s ashes with them to spread in the area.
