Q&A with Men’s Lacrosse Leading Scorer Coby Petau

Coby Petau is a sophomore attacker who hails from Highlands Ranch, Colo. Petau has really excelled this year, substantially leading the team in goals scored. He may seem quiet or reserved at first, but there’s a lot you may not know about this tenacious athlete. The team is currently on a 13-game win streak, and they don’t plan on letting up any time soon.

Samantha Gilbert: You guys have been absolutely dominating this season- what’s your mentality going into games that differs from last season?

Coby Petau: This year I feel like we have a certain swagger to our team that is starting to come out. We walk onto the field with the mentality that we will win this game no matter who we are playing. It’s a very contagious mentality, and if all 50 guys have it, then we can do some special things.

SG: Favorite pre-game fuel and post workout meal?

CP: Pre-game meal would have to be chicken parm because I feel like thats all I ever eat when we are traveling the night before a game. Post workout meal would have to be a burrito bowl from Chipotle.

SG: Double chicken burrito bowl?

CP: Hell yeah, of course double chicken.

SG: That’s what I like to hear. Switching gears, who is your celebrity crush and why?

CP: Celebrity crush is probably Mila Kunis because I love all of the roles that she plays, and she seems like a wonderful person.

SG: Right, and she is mildly good looking as well. What’s the best thing about the lacrosse team?

CP: The best thing about the lacrosse team has to be the boys. I would take a bullet for anyone on my team, and they will always be my guys.

SG: What’s something funny that people don’t know about you?

CP: Nicholas Sparks movies are some of my favorite movies of all time for sure.

SG: Looking forward, what are your goals for the rest of the season?

CP: To win a national championship. That’s always the goal and that’s why I started playing lacrosse.

SG: How do you feel about Sam Mathai? I know there’s been recent speculation on him poaching his teammates in his column.

CP: Sam Mathai is a great guy. I think that there is a strong correlation between forehead size and being a standup guy.

SG: I agree. So, what’s a quote or saying that resonates with you in regards to how you view your tenacity on the field/during games?

CP: A quote I’ve always liked is “Motivated by the fear of being average.” No idea who said it.

SG: What animal do you identify with and why?

CP: For sure a grizzly bear because they can either be really hyped up or just chill. They are also a pretty girthy animal, and I really resonate with that.

Thanks Coby, and good luck with the rest of your season!
