Colorado Springs Connection: In an effort to better connect Colorado College with the larger community of Colorado Springs the Catalyst is featuring one community member each week.
This week, we talked to Pat Montgomery. Pat is originally from Delaware and has lived on the streets in Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Delaware, and Washington. He said, “People often look down on me. Why? Because I don’t have a lot of money? That just doesn’t make sense to me. When I do get some money I normally spend it on other people. I’m an atheist but I believe that what goes around always comes around. What people don’t realize is that all the power is in the hands of the property owners in this country, they control housing prices. Money talks, man. The number one reason for homelessness that I’ve seen is a lack of affordable housing.” Pat has been on crutches for the past two months after injuring his foot. When he receives his disability check this month he plans on buying a bus ticket to Washington state.
