In honor of the holiday season, Giving Week provides a chance for alumni, parents, and the entire campus community to show their support with a pledge. Tuesday, Dec. 1 marked the kick-off of CC’s annual Giving Week, which will continue until Saturday, Dec. 5.
Pledges go directly to the Annual Fund, an incredibly important resource on campus that the college draws upon for immediate needs to benefit all students. This year marks CC’s second annual Giving Week.
“Giving Week starts with Giving Tuesday, a global social media incentive to give and be charitable to all kinds of nonprofits,” said Jessie Brabender, Assistant Phonathon Manager of the DIALogue Student Calling Center. “Last year, our giving society was 1,881 donors. This year our goal is to beat that.”
Kerry Steere, Director for Annual Giving, is hoping to use social media to promote alumni participation.
“We’re asking donors to share why they #feedthetiger—a metaphor for making gifts to CC—and encourage others to do the same,” said Steere. Additionally, the first 30 alumni to pledge will receive CC swag as a surprise.
This year, Steere announced that a generous, anonymous alum has created a 24-hour giving challenge, beginning at midnight on Thursday, Dec. 3. “If 500 alumni donors make a gift before 11:59, an anonymous alumni donor will make a gift of $50,000,” said Steere.
At DIALogue, the student call center, callers will be using these incentives to make Giving Week a success.
“I want Giving Week to be fun for us in DIALogue so that we can help CC succeed and end the semester on a positive note,” said Brabender. “Callers can expect some yummy treats and maybe even a raffle this week as well.”
While Giving Week brings a fun component and a challenge to the campus community, its impact on the community and the importance of its success is immense.
“When I first came to DIALogue, I didn’t even realize its impact would be so large,” Brabender said. The annual fund is involved in student financial aid, student-faculty research funding, new technology, and many other parts of students’ education.
Along with alumni donors, students are encouraged to share the Giving Week drive on social media in order to help spread the word and encourage more pledges.
“Especially with this 24-hour challenge, students are going to have a big impact on whether the alumni succeed,” Brabender said.
